Like any event or conference that deals with a specific subject matter, where as a participant you have the chance to guide and shape the discussion and negotiations on a topic and above all learn something new, a good preparation is important.

Being prepared, you will not only be able to take something new back home but especially have much fun and truly enjoy negotiations and diplomacy

Here, we give you important advice on how you can prepare well for a Model United Nations in order for you to have an impact, to learn something new and especially have a wonderful time. 

The successful participation at a Model United Nations is based on three pillars.

  1. Your committee: good knowledge of the rules of procedure and the role and functions of your committee
  2. Your topic(s): good knowledge of the subject matter that will be debated upon in your committee
  3. Your country/actor: good knowledge of the position and policy of your country/actor towards the specific subject matter(s) being debated upon in your committee
In order to better prepare on the above mentioned points we strongly advise you to also prepare a draft resolution on one of the subject matters in your committee as well as a position paper with the opinion of your country on issues that seem crucial to you. Both points will enable you to better handle the subject matter as well as more clearly define your national position on it.
