Honorable Delegates, Ladies and Gentleman, and friends of EuroMUN,
We, the United Nations Student Association Maastricht, warmly welcome you to our fifth European Model United Nations conference, taking place from May 16th to May 20th 2012 in the Maastricht Exhibition and Conference Centre (MECC). In Maastricht 20 years ago, a treaty was drafted that founded and still is the fundament of the European Union. To celebrate those past 20 years of a United Europe we are delighted to announce that, in addition to the traditional simulations of the UN organs, a special historical council will be offered to you created especially in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Maastricht Treaty. Additionally, we proudly present an ICC simulation that EuroMUN will be offering for the very first time.
EuroMUN 2012 will be under the slogan “Peace, Progress, Prosperity – Forging New Paths in Uncertain Times”. The slogan describes the process that has built our world though in current times the global situation dictates that the old ways are not sufficient anymore to built a brighter future. It also incorporates the European problem, as the future of the Union founded on this treaty is being questioned at present. However, there is no doubt about the fact that we will organize the second largest university level MUN in Europe with 13 committees, attracting over 550 students from all over the world and providing them with a unique experience in our beautiful city.
EuroMUN is renowned for its social programs, like our optional pre-programs taking place in Brussels, The Hague and Bonn. There, you will have the chance to get an even greater insight about what world politics look like in the center of Europe. Our second biggest concern after providing a challenging and stimulating conference is of course to make you never forget your EuroMUN experience through our social program and naturally the Delegate’s Dance.
